Kneeling General Washington

I saw this picture of General Washington while going though the Mercury One Enlightenment through History tour in Utah back in July. The story behind it is what is so amazing!

One of the British soldiers walked up on General Washington in this stance during the war. As the Brit soaked in what he was seeing, he realized that he was fighting on the wrong side. He knew that George Washington had God’s favor based on this image of humility, strength, and fortitude.

The only thing about the painting that is not accurate is where he is looking. It has been said that George Washington said his prayers out loud while looking straight up to heaven. My guess is the British soldier heard the content of his prayer too.

It's an image that reminds me of Jesus, Moses, and John Wayne all at the same time. Powerful!

  1. Adam…..I have a story to share with YOU! It is the story of how this exact picture is now hanging in my home!!! I remember telling my daughter at a very young age that the history teachers will tell her many things about history but they will most likely never tell her about the very important fact that George got on his knees daily and prayed and he prayed before going into battle and everytime she looks at this picture I want her to remember that.
